Cramps, back pain, bloated tum…yep we know it ain’t sexy, but hey a girls body’s gotta do what a girl’s body’s gotta do.
Period pain is one of the worst and most uncomfortable experiences during our teens, it’s no wonder most of us break out in mood swings. However, just to make sure PMS doesn’t completely take over, here are some useful tips you can follow to support your body through it’s tough time…
#1 - Mental acceptance
It may sound simple, but you’d be surprised at the amount of girls who get annoyed at their bodies during that time of the month! Come on, you know you’ve asked your cycle ‘Why did you have to come now?!’ We say, why work up a sweat feeling irritated? Yes, we know you feel a bit horrible but accepting that this is how your body is going to be for the next couple of days will enable you to adjust to your hormonal changes, as a result you won’t feel so OUT OF CONTROL!
#2 - Have a break, have a Kit-Kat
That time of the month can be the perfect excuse for us to pig out and overindulge in as much chocolate, sweets, crisp, pizza, fizzy pop and fast food as our cravings can possibly handle. But when we said, have a Kit-Kat we didn’t mean eat ten in a row! It’s important to approach our cravings with strategy, so rather than feeling tempted to commit a food sin, try sharing a bar with your pal or you could just discipline your mouth to savour an individual square of chocolate – we never said this would be easy either!
#3 - Just breathe
Sometimes it just gets too much and you feel like you are about to EXPLOOOOOODE! Just breathe. Inhale,1,2,3,4,5 and exhale 1,2,3,4,5…better? According to research, deep breathing is one of the simplest (yet effective) ways to keep calm and gain control of your emotions.
#4 - Hit the gym!
Let’s keep it real girls, during that time of the month we can all feel pretty crappy, right? But who has time to sit and entertain the pity party…you better hit that gym right quick! A good ol’ workout is not only a natural painkiller, but a phenomenal mood booster and hey we can assure you that after working up a sweat you certainly won’t feel as bloated.
