The truth is girls, I am absolutely out of it!
I am tired as heck, my throat is sore and I am feeling slightly apprehensive about whether or not this Editor’s letter is even going to make sense.
Nevertheless, I’m going to take a whack at it!
I sat on my bed at 7.00am this morning making the point to Lem that it’s been nearly three months since I have been working at the BBC and I still haven’t manage to organise myself properly! She also made me feel a million times better about this by telling me I ought to be ashamed of myself. Thanks Lem, I always knew I could count on you for a word of encouragement.
Speaking of encouragement, this month on Skool Girl Online (well week) is about ‘giving back’– YAY!
I love helping others, whether it be sharing my lunch with a colleague at work who doesn’t have any to buying breakfast for the homeless man on the way into work. I may not be able to save the world, but as Tesco says ‘Every little helps.’
Sometimes we can underestimate the simple ways we can give back to others or our community. Donating money to charity and fundraising are all great initiatives, but one of the greatest investments you can give anybody is your TIME.
As you know Christmas is on our doorstep and there are plenty of festivities to look forward to in the next coming week, but unfortunately it’s not a happy occasion for everyone. I would like you to think about how you can help to put a smile on someone’s face this season. Can you volunteer at a local shelter, feed the homeless at a soup kitchen, read stories to children in hospital, visit an old people’s home and play a few games of Dominoes?
No matter how big or small your idea of ‘giving back’ is, an investment of your time can save a life and give hope to the hopeless.
Team SG will certainly be doing our part on Boxing Day where we’ll join a voluntary group in King standing, Birmingham for a ‘feed the homeless day’.
On behalf of the team, I genuinely wish you all a very Merry ‘Not Your Average Christmas’. Just enjoy it, enjoy your family, enjoy your friends and enjoy the moment.
This maybe digressing a bit, but last Wednesday I went to the funeral of a friend that I grew up with in church. She was 19 and had ambitions of being a fashion designer. It hit home to me on how important it is to really go after what you want and make the most of life. Tomorrow is not promised to any of us, but the moment of right NOW is, so let’s not take it for granted.
As we come to the end of another year, let’s take a moment to give thanks that we made it through. Some of us had hurdles and may even felt like life was overwhelming at times, but the point is, you’re still here so that’s something to celebrate!
Let’s go out with a bang and enjoy what we have left of 2014 shall we?
I don’t particularly feel the need to ramble on anymore.
Skool Girls, I love ya. Stay safe, be blessed and keep it 100% not your average, always!
Your’s truly
PS: I plan to be more organised for 2015, and that’s a fact!
