Sometimes we forget to enjoy the simple things in life such as our family. We can often overlook the importance of spending quality time with our loved ones, but always remember that we only get one family so its our duty to make the most of them. Here are a few small, but meaningful ways to make those moments with your family the most enjoyable time ever!
Game Nights
As a child I can remember enjoying game nights every Sunday with my family, we played practically everything – Guess Who?, Jenga, Buckaroo, Operation, Boggle, Scrabble, Snakes and Ladders (the list is endless). Sometimes you gotta go back to basics, and a traditional board game is great way to bring out the family competitive edge as well as to have a good laugh!
Cooking
Dinner doesn’t always have to be left to Mom. Cooking can be an enjoyable activity for everyone; the trick is to be innovative. Have you ever tried creating a family meal? Divide up the tasks (you can even be head chef), from chopping to stirring and blending, you can really get some serious team work going. The best part is seeing what ingenious meal you can all come up with.
Film Nights
Film nights are probably one of the most less expensive ways to enjoy some quality FT in the cold season – you can even have themed film nights. Nothing beats watching your favourite classic comedy during the dull winter period. Wrap up under your warm duvet, grab the popcorn, have the Haribo’s handy and you’re pretty much good to go!
Shopping
Let’s be honest, family shopping trips have never been about quality time, it’s an excuse for healthy debates about what to and what not to buy – whether it be clothes, food or general household items. Nevertheless, these debates can be just as entertaining, and if you’re anything like my family a serious shopping spree is usually followed by down time at a nice café for lunch.
Devotion
Devotion is a time of reflection, confession, examination, and worship. My family have devotion once a week, during this time we read a Bible verse and discuss / reflect on our ‘highs’and ‘lows’of the week, and decide how to improve on the lows. We also offer words of encouragement for one another and finish with a pray of thanksgiving.
Exercising sessions
Working out with your family regularly is a motivating way to offer each other moral support to stay healthy and whole as well as setting family targets to work towards.
Walking / Bike riding
This is especially refreshing in the morning and is the perfect way to gear the family up to start the day.
Volunteering
Voluntary activities are a great way for your family to reaffirm the importance of helping those who are less fortunate than yourselves. This has the power of reminding you of key family values such as unity and trust.
