I wouldn’t be so quick to say Birmingham hasn’t got talent! Meet Bambi Bains, the leading lady of Team PBN music collective.

The young talented singer, dancer, model and actress is currently taking the urban desi scene by storm, in (may I add) impeccable ‘style’ and ‘glamour’.Last November Bambi released her impressive debut single ‘Zaalma’, which makes a ‘statement’ for young Asian women with a hook line that demands the boys make way for the ladies – Heck yes!

Between me and you, this Brit-Asian gift is definitely one to watch, but anyway below me and BB talk details of debut single success!

What has the response been like so far since the release of your debut single?
It has been immense. I’ve had many positive comments in regards to the music, goals and video. There has been so much love and support for my debut single; this is exactly what I needed and I am extremely grateful for it. It’s nice to see that women have fully supported this too because there is a lack of Asian female talent in this industry and I’m happy to be here flying the flag for them.

Did you ever believe that ‘Zaalma’ would be such a massive hit?
To be honest, I never thought it would be such a big hit considering it’s my first ever single to be released globally and I am new to the scene, so I thought it would have been hard to break the ice. However, knowing that I’m backed by a successful artist and manager, ‘PBN’, I knew that I would’ve had the support from his loyal fan base.

Can we expect any more new music, possibly an album, EP…?
There are different genres of music I will be working on which will include Folk Punjabi, Romantic, RNB…all in good time.

What are your aspirations for the future?
I hope to make a positive impact on the global Asian music scene. It would be a dream to be working in other genres outside the Asian music scene, maybe taking my sound to the mainstream market and even Bollywood, if the opportunity arises.

The Bhangra industry is hugely dominated by men, do you think this is something that can affect your music career, if so how do you plan to deal with this?
I used to think that this will really affect my career because I am the youngest person in the whole industry and also a female, which there is less of in the scene. However, being in the industry for nearly two years, I know how to work around men and how to stay focused, so it isn’t a problem. My job is to now prove that women are worthy in this industry and hopefully this will attract more of them so the industry can grow with an equal amount of genders.

Now that you’re in the spotlight, how do you decide on your overall image?
I get my fashion inspiration from the 1960s. I like to wear elegant outfits and have a classy but unique dress sense. I wear anything depending on how I feel and where I’m going. For performances, I like to be a mixture of smart and funky. My image is very important to me and other people who look up to me as a role model. I make sure my reputation comes across respectfully at all times.

Between currently studying and maintaining a strict fitness regime, how do you relax?
I’m afraid relaxation does not exist in my world anymore! It feels great though, because I’m not being lazy and I know I’m working hard to achieve my goals which (touch wood) have been going really well so far! I like to be a busy person, it keeps me on my feet, but I do like to relax every now and then when I have nothing to do.

What advice can you give to a Skool Girl?
Stay humble and passionate . Always be consistent  in whatever you do and work hard! Appreciate what you have been given and any opportunities which arise, this quality will get you very far.
